Saturday, May 16: Last day of Spring Session lessons.
Congratulations to our very first Volunteer of the Month, Donna Schantz!! Donna came out to Special Equestrians for our Fall 2013 Volunteer Orientation and she hasn't left since. While starting out helping as a Leader and Sidewalker during lessons, we soon found Donna's niche with us as our "Master Saddler". On most lessond days you'll find Donna in the barn, grooming our horses and tacking them up for each lesson, which is no small feat considering that some lessons we use 4-5 horses at one time!
Donna grew up not just around horses, but around polo horses, helping her Dad train and care for the number of polo horses under his wing. It's no surprise that Picassa, one of our horses who used to play polo herself, is her favorite, although the other 5 are close seconds! For the past 23 years Donna has added to her equine resume as Camp Chef for an outfitting company out in the wilderness of Montana, which she has enjoyed doing each summer.
When Donna isn't lending us her time and expertise here at Special Equestrians, you can usually find her enjoying her family here in Vero Beach, especially her 18 month old grandson, who, of course, has been out to visit our facility and meet the horses. While most of Donna's time with us is spent in the barn, she is always ready to greet our students and their families with a big smile and you'll often see them giving her a big hug in return.
We appreciate all that you do for us Donna!
